SMT. DUVVURU RAMANAMMA SOCIETY FOR WOMEN AND CHILD WELFARE

The Society was registered under Societies Registration act during the year 1982 with Societies Act No. ACT XXI of 1860 with the aims and objectives to serve the cause of women and children’s Education and Welfare. To start and administer a college called “DUVVURU RAMANAMMA WOMEN’S COLLEGE”. The society was framed with No profit motive and No commercial activity is involved. The society is being renewed from time to time.

History of Institution

Duvvuru Ramanamma Women’s College (DRW) is a service organization sponsored by Rotary Club of Gudur started with the noble cause to serve the Women community especially from rural and backward sector.


The College was started during the year 1981 with B.A., and B. Com., courses with 56 students and 6 staff members. Following Swami Vivekananda’s saying “Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached” the management has not stopped its efforts until it has academic growth of the Institution, the infrastructure facilities are being improved year after year. The college has been producing excellent results. A number of financial aids are made available to the Students. The Placement Cell helps and guide the students for employment opportunities. The Welfare Committee, Alumni Association & parents Association extend financial support to the poor students.


The college sensitized the students to the latest managerial concepts like team work, collective decision making and decentralization in academic matters. The college inculcates civic sense among the students by executing a number of socially relevant, community oriented programmes. The campus breathes a academic and co-curricular ambience conductive to teaching, learning and research. Under the visionary, dynamic and socially committed leadership of our management, the college has made astonishing strides in the field of education during a span of 32 years. Spacious buildings well equipped laboratories and libraries and above all experienced and student caring faculty made D.R.W. College a well-developed institution. The college was admitted into grant in aid during 1990 and admitted to UGC Section 2 (f0 and 12 (b) in the year 1993. The college offers 8 P.G. and 9 U.G. courses and 12 need based certificate courses. This is the first affiliated college in the S.V. University area that


volunteered for NAAC Accreditation. The college was accredited by NAAC, Bangalore during the year 2004 and was awarded with B++ grade with 82.05 score. The College volunteered for Re- Accreditation and this is the first College Re-accredited by NAAC under with “A” Grade with 3.14 CGPA in the S.V. University area during 2010. The CPE Status under Phase I was awarded by the UGC during 2010.


The UGC conferred Autonomous Status to the College during 2010 and this is the one and only Autonomous College in the S.V. University area. The College was brought under the purview of V.S. University, a newly established University in Nellore district during 2010. The college has crossed many milestones after Re-Accreditation and after conferring Autonomous status and the CPE Status from UGC. The College succeeded in getting two UGC Innovative Programmes at P.G. level which is unique in the State.
The college boasts of its senior, experienced well qualified Special Officer, Principal and Faculty who are constant source of inspiration to their students. Their guidance and counseling is an asset to the students in the academic programmes, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Quality sustenance and enhancement initiatives have become part of Institutional Culture at every stage.

Hence the College is serving the Society by educating girl students.

The institution was started with the noble motto of “Let noble thoughts come to us from every side”. Keeping this in mind the college always welcomes innovative suggestions offered by the intellectuals. The college conducts spiritual classes to inculcate spiritual values among the students, to break down the social barriers and to have religious tolerance. The truths that are common to all religions are being taught to students to realize the importance of human values. Based on the sayings of Swami Vivekananda the college gives priority to character building and value based education.
